Description
When orphaned Irish siblings Molly and Kip arrive to work as servants at a creepy, crumbling English manor house, they discover that the house and its inhabitants are not what they seem. Soon the siblings are confronted by a mysterious stranger and the secrets of the cursed house will change their lives forever. This much-anticipated follow up to Jonathan Auxier’s exceptional debut, Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, is a Victorian mystery in the tradition of Washington Irving and Edgar Allan Poe. The Night Gardener is a mesmerizing read and a classic in the making.

Review Quotes
Selected, Quill & Quire's list of Books of the Year, 2014
“It has all the elements of an amazing Gothic mystery: two orphans looking for a home, a remote and mysterious location, strange creatures wandering at night, a forbidden room, a family secret, and a storyteller’s warning. Readers of all ages will find it hard to put this book down!” - Resource Links
“The Night Gardener is a highly satisfactory instance not only of the traditional Gothic thriller but of a thriller in the broad sense, with a great deal of action and genuinely appealing protagonists." - The National Post
“Very imaginative and clever, with traditional fairy-tale storytelling, it’s a richly spooky read .... Skewing a bit older (and maybe a bit scarier) than middle grade, it is much more a fable about avarice and the inherent goodness in storytelling than anything else, and more Sleepy Hollow and Jane Eyre than Harry Potter. It’s very refreshing to find such a comprehensive story in a standalone book, especially one with humour, kindness, and some real evil." - The Globe and Mail
