Author Bio


Helaine Becker is the award-winning author of more than 100 books for children, both nonfiction and fiction. She is the two-time winner of the Lane Anderson Award for science writing for children, as well as the Youth Book Award (Science Writers & Communicators of Canada (SWCC)) and the Libris Award for Picture Book of the Year Award (Canadian Booksellers Association). Two of her numerous math- and science-related books focus specifically on technology and robotics: Zoobots: Wild Robots Inspired by Real Animals and Hubots: Real-World Robots Inspired by Humans. Helaine’s books have been translated into 14 languages, and she is a frequent speaker at schools, universities and conferences.

KEVIN SYLVESTER is the author/illustrator of more than thirty books, including the award-winning Apartment 713, the MiNRS trilogy, the Neil Flambé Capers, The Almost Epic Squad: Mucus Mayhem, and the Hockey Super Six series. Sylvester has won awards from across Canada, among them the Silver Birch Award and the Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Award. He co-wrote, with Basil Sylvester, the Governor General’s Award–shortlisted The Fabulous Zed Watson! and The Night of the Living Zed. Kevin Sylvester lives in Toronto.

She is a two-time recipient of the Lane Anderson Award and a winner of both the Silver Birch Award and the Red Cedar Award. Helaine lives with her family in Toronto, Ontario.
Kevin Sylvester is an award-winning author, illustrator and broadcaster. Best known for the MiNRS trilogy and the Neil Flambé series, he is the creator of over 30 children's books, including picture books, middle-grade novels and nonfiction books. Kevin lives in Toronto, Ontario.
