Description

When an English teacher turns up dead on school property one May morning, everyone at Ridgeview Alternative School is shocked.

Everyone, that is, except Jordan, Nick, and Chloe.

Months earlier, these three ambitious twelfth graders land in Clifford “Call Me Cliff” Lowell’s Comparative Literature classroom with big dreams of university scholarships and rewarding careers, only to discover that the well-respected educator is actually a sexual predator with a long list of victims — a list that’s about to include two of them.

Facing a manipulative monster, a complacent administration, and grim futures, the trio hatches a desperate plot: plan a murder so perfect that maybe, just maybe, they can get away with it …

Review Quotes

“At times darkly humorous, this story offers meaningful representation of the powerless taking back control within a system that’s set against them. The authors include a fun thematic parallel as talented actor Chloe plays Lady Macbeth in a school production while Nick writes and performs the music, and Jordan works tech. Utterly satisfying.”  — Kirkus Reviews
“With honest depictions of bullying, sexual assault, grooming, power and politics, violence, and murder, Our Little Secret, the co-written debut from writers Edward Kay and Mikhael Klassen-Kay is a frank, few-holds-barred thriller that presses against the boundaries of young adult fiction … Our Little Secret is a suspenseful thriller rooted in the realities of contemporary teenage life, with plenty of twists and a keen sense of morality that will have readers cheering (perhaps quietly) for the protagonists to get away with their crime. While intended for young readers, the novel will appeal to most adult thriller readers as well.” Starred Review  — Quill & Quire
“Our Little Secret is filled with twists, turns and mystery that wil keep teens on the edge of their seats until the last page.”  — Canadian Children’s Book News

“This book grabs the reader by the throat. … The story is relentless in expanding mystery conventions. Like the rule for improv theatre, the plot constantly says, ‘Yes, and …’ More than a whodunnit — although it is that — it is also an intriguing ‘whydunnit.’”
