PRESENTATION DESCRIPTIONS
Drawing from Nature (workshop)
Target audience: Kindergarten to Grade 6
Ideal group size: 20 students
Maximum group size: 30 students (with help from a teacher or two)
Join Sid for a workshop where we look at the pieces of nature that exist all around us and explore ways to lovingly document, preserve, and care for the things we find (while leaving them where they belong). Participants will draw and write about their chosen treasures and the surrounding environment, sparking stories to tell and coming away with fun games and activities for interacting with the natural world.
Required equipment: Sid will provide the treasures and examples (this activity works better in person)
Required materials: plain or colourful paper, markers, pencil crayons
Radical Reads (On Organizing and Children’s Literature)
Target audience: teachers, librarians, interested adults, bookish children
Ideal group size: a full room
Maximum group size: flexible; my preference is to offer this talk in-person but it could be adapted to be given in a virtual format
Join Sid for a presentation about social progress and organizing presented through children’s literature. We’ll highlight some favourites and chat about the myth of kids being “too young” for books with big ideas.
Required equipment: microphone, projector, screen
Required materials: N/A
