PRESENTATION DESCRIPTIONS

Presentation #1 (Grades 3 and up)

Learn to make bannock

As students listen to Masiana Kelly read her most recent book “Bannock in a
Hammock” they will talk about food that surrounds our families and our
communities.

Masiana Kelly is a huge Dr. Seuss fan and loves to incorporate favourite foods, local names, and places in her writing.

Students will talk about their favourite food, make a rhyming sentence with a favourite dish, write out in brief details how to make the dish, and draw a picture to go with their sentence.

When students have completed their own pages, classroom teachers are encouraged to make a class recipe book inspired by dishes that make them feel at home.

Presentation #2 (Kindergarten to Grade 6)

I love you as much as a _________ loves its ___________

Talk about the animals that live around you. If you live in the south, do you have
racoons? If you live further north, do you have beluga whales? If you live in
the country, do you have cows and horses nearby? If you live in the city, do
you see crows or ravens?

Talk about the beauty that can be found right where you live, discuss the animals
that surround you, and use them as inspiration to make a card for someone
special.

Students will talk about the animals and area around them, create a sentence with the “I love you as much as a _____” prompt, and finish the card by drawing a picture on the front cover, or printing one later on.
