BIOGRAPHY
Kuljinder Kaur Brar is passionate about diverse representation in books and education. She is an elementary school teacher in Abbotsford, B.C. and is currently on a leave to spend time with her children. Kuljinder is the picture book author of My Name is Saajin Singh (Annick Press, 2022) and Mandeep’s Cloudy Days (Annick Press, 2024). Spending time with her family and friends, nature walks, and anything milk chocolate brightens up her day.
PRESENTATION DESCRIPTIONS
Celebrating Names and Identity
(30 minutes)
Target audience: Kindergarten - Grade 4
Preferred group size: 50 - 60 students
Maximum group size: 100 - 120 students
Join Kuljinder for an empowering session about celebrating who you are and embracing your cultural identity. Kuljinder will read her picture book, My Name Is Saajin Singh, and share her experiences of people mispronouncing her name and the inspiration behind the story. Participants will be provided a safe space to share their own experiences with mispronounced names and an opportunity to ask the author anything!
Required equipment: document camera and microphone (for larger group presentations, if available)

Managing Big Emotions through Journaling
(30 minutes)
Target audience: Kindergarten - Grade 4
Preferred group size: 50 - 60 students
Maximum group size: 100 - 120 students
Join Kuljinder for a session about coping with difficult and complex emotions. Kuljinder will read her picture book, Mandeep’s Cloudy Days, and share her experiences growing up as a second-generation immigrant and the inspiration behind the story. Participants will learn about the power of journaling and have an opportunity to ask the author anything!

(45 minute presentation with 15 minutes for Q&A)
