Maximum group size: 70 - 80 students (3 or 4 classes)
Studies all show how important literacy is to a child’s emotional and academic success. But beyond why it’s important for children to read, Angela Ahn talks about barriers in publishing that make it hard for children of colour to truly see themselves in books. Is “literacy” truly equitable and accessible to all young Canadians? In this presentation, Angela Ahn will talk about real experiences she’s had dealing with racism first-hand in publishing and why it’s been important to her to keep writing diverse books, no matter how difficult it has been.
