Strategic Plan
Our Strategic Plan explains how we will continue to grow into the future. It’s made up of four key pillars, each of which supports our commitment to providing books to young readers across the country and helping Canadian creators find their audience.
A message from Zain Velji, President of the CCBC:
As President of the Canadian Children’s Book Centre’s Executive Board, I am excited to introduce the CCBC’s strategic plan. This plan was made through extensive research and outreach and will chart the CCBC’s path into 2024. While this plan is meant to be a map into the future, it is not intended to be a static path. Through continued consultation with members, the Strategic Plan will grow and expand as we make our way to 2024.
At the centre of this plan is the same mission that has been at the heart of the CCBC since its formation in 1976: to support the reading, writing, illustrating and publishing of Canadian books for young people. We will continue to strive towards making it possible for all young Canadians to have access to Canadian books. To meet this challenge, we will focus on four key pillars: Outreach, Engagement, Support and Measurement. We will continue to work with our membership and community to achieve these goals and make a difference in the lives of young people all across Canada.
CCBC 2022 Strategic Plan Overview:
2019 was a year of transition for us. Throughout the year, we succeeded in achieving our goals, such as operational and financial stability, downsizing operations, reducing expenses, and developing a fundraising strategy. When all of these goals were met in 2020, we had the opportunity to look to the future.
On October 23, 2020, we held a strategic planning workshop with staff and board members. This workshop was the starting point for the creation of our strategic plan for 2022-2024. These are the key strategic principles guiding our work:
Outreach
Vision: To be an essential contributor to the Canadian children’s literature community.
Goal: Partnering to expand national networks.
Objective: Increase industry presence, national reach, and partnerships.
Engagement
Vision: Establishing and maintaining meaningful stakeholder connections.
Goal: Be recognized by the industry and our stakeholders as an inclusive collaborator who facilitates the connection of diverse Canadian voices and books for young people.
Objective: Strengthen membership retention, stakeholder relations, and inclusion initiatives.
Support
Vision: Build fully sustainable operations through the right mix of sales, sponsorship, donations, and government funding at all levels and from all parts of the country.
Goal: Secure diverse funding sources.
Objective: Secure funding for the CCBC’s operations through outreach, engagement, monetization opportunities, and impact to secure funding for the CCBC’s operations.
Measurement
Vision: Deliver high-quality programs and services that clearly demonstrate their value while producing significant outcomes.
Goal: Utilize KPI's to measure programs and services.
Objective: create performance measurements that reflect the impacts and outcomes of each strategic pillar’s objectives.
