Rising by Sidura Ludwig wins the Children and Youth category in the Canadian Jewish Literary Awards
The Canadian Jewish Literary Awards have announced the winners of their 2024 prizes. The awards recognize the finest books with Jewish themes and subjects by Canadian authors in a variety of genres. The Rising, written by Sidura Ludwig and illustrated by Sophia Vincent Guy (Candlewick Press) wins the Children and Youth category.
"This quiet, joyful story celebrating a Jewish mother’s tradition of making challah with her child merges a lyrical text with stunning illustrations. Drawing connections between kitchen chemistry, timeless traditions, and the pleasures of everyday Jewish life, Rising bubbles with the joy of family and friends coming together to share the warmth of Shabbat. The poetic narration captures the ritual of a Jewish family making challah—a lesson in patience, slowing down, faith, and family. Readers will enjoy making the author’s favourite challah recipe as the Jurors did."
The awards will be presented on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at a gala ceremony at the Al Green Theatre, Miles Nadal JCC, 750 Spadina Avenue in Toronto. The event starts at 2 pm. There will be a dessert reception and author meet-and-greet/book signing following the ceremony.
