Finalists announced for the 2024 QWF Literary Awards
The Quebec Writers’ Federation (QWF) has announced the shortlists for the 2024 QWF Literary Awards, including the Janet Savage Blachford Prize for Children’s and Young Adult Literature.
The winners of the eight prestigious prizes will be announced at the QWF Literary Awards Gala on Tuesday, November 12 at Cabaret Lion d’Or. The ceremony begins at 8:00 pm, preceded by a cocktail reception from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The event will be hosted by Ali Hassan. Each book award comes with a $3,000 cash prize.
The theme for the gala is Reflecting on the Future. Attendees are invited to get in the spirit of the theme by wearing futuristic attire or reflective materials—such as silks, satins, metallics, or shiny jewelry or accessories—and to prepare for an evening that bridges the present and the future of English literary arts in Quebec.
The finalists for the Janet Savage Blachford Prize for Children’s and Young Adult Literature are:
Hopscotch by Marie-Louise Gay (Groundwood Books)
Walking Trees by Marie-Louise Gay (Groundwood Books)
SOS Water by Yayo (Tradewind Books)
The Wolf Pup by Etua Snowball with illustrations by Emma Crossland (Inhabit Media)
In addition to these titles, Shorelines, a play for youth audiences by Mishka Lavigne, has been nominated for the QWF Prize for Playwriting.
