Canadians Honoured at ALA's 2024 Youth Media Awards
Earlier today, the American Library Association (ALA) announced the winner and honour books for the 2024 Youth Media Awards. Author Christopher Paul Curtis was awarded the Coretta Scott King – Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement. Abdi Nazemian's Only This Beautiful Moment was awarded the Stonewall Book Awards – Mike Morgan & Larry Roman Young Adult Literature Award.
Simon Sort of Says by Erin Bow was named an honour book for the prestigious John Newbery Medal, as well as an honour book in the middle-grade category for the Schneider Family Book Award. Funeral Song for Girls by Cherie Dimaline was named and honour book in the YA category for the American Indian Youth Literature Awards.
The gold medalist in the picture book category for the Sydney Taylor Book Award is Two New Year by American author Richard Ho and Canadian illustrator Lynn Scurfield. Afikomen by Tziporah Cohen and Yaara Eshet (illus.) was named an honour book for the Sydney Taylor Book Award.
