CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: TD Summer Reading Club Position – Artist
Toronto Public Library is accepting applications from children’s illustrators for the 2025 TD Summer Reading Club Artist position. The application deadline is August 1, 2024 at 9 am.

Duration: September 2024 to August 2025
Remuneration: $35,000 for a 12-month term
About TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC)
TDSRC is a national, bilingual program of Canadian public libraries that strives to engage all children in the joy of reading during the summer months while championing Canadian writers and illustrators. The program helps connect children and families with books and build confidence in reading through the delivery of free incentives and fun, accessible library and online activities.

TD Summer Reading Club 2025 Campaign Identity: Around the World
Buckle up, globetrotters, we are setting out on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to faraway places. Be sure to pack your passport and an open mind as we are introduced to a whirlwind of sights, smells and sounds in bustling streets and vibrant markets. We will let the wind carry us through arid deserts, over snow-capped mountains and across glittering oceans as we fill our travel journals with photos and share our treasured memories in postcards home! What a beautiful world! Let’s cherish everything and everyone in it.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the 2025 TDSRC illustration elements used for all program materials, including those used for communication, promotion and the interactive website
- Illustrations will be created around the annual TDSRC theme and will help drive the TDSRC brand strategy and key objective of promoting and celebrating the joy of reading
- Elements will be developed in consultation with and according to creative and technical direction provided by the Toronto Public Library, involving collaboration with the various TDSRC committees
- Illustrations must appeal to multiple audiences (i.e., young children, older children, and parents/caregivers)
- Participate in promotional events and conduct four to six children’s programs online and/or in-person (TBD)
- Represent the program in a manner that reflects the program’s brand and values
Timeline:
- Art for this project must be completed between September 2024 and May 2025
- Promotional events and library program responsibilities (locations TBD) will occur from June to August 2025
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must reside in Canada
- Professionally published children’s book illustrator
- Able to work in collaborative situations and meet deadlines
- Ability to work to scope of project, audience and theme
- Able to apply principles of diversity, equity and inclusiveness and work with diverse communities
Asset qualification:
- Ability to work in both official languages
Applications must include:
- Cover letter outlining ability to meet eligibility criteria (one page)
- Curriculum vitae or resume, including a list of publications and completed projects, education and training, recognition and awards
- Sample images from recent work in .jpg or .pdf format and links to websites or interactive products (10 pieces of work)
- Two letters of reference
