Volunteer Opportunity (3 positions): Canadian Children’s Book Week 2025
Canadian Children’s Book Week is a national celebration of books, reading, and the magic of creating stories. During this event, Canadian children’s book authors and illustrators (as well as storytellers) tour across Canada visiting schools, libraries, and community venues where they present talks and workshops to kids and teens.
We are currently seeking to fill the following three volunteer positions for Canadian Children’s Book Week which will take place from Sunday, April 27 to Saturday, May 3, 2025:
- Alberta Book Week Regional Coordinator
- Saskatchewan Book Week Regional Coordinator
- Manitoba Book Week Regional Coordinator
Book Week regional coordinators are needed to volunteer from mid-October to mid-May. The estimated time commitment is as follows:
- October and November: two to five hours per week
- Early January to Late April: five to ten hours per week
- Early- to Mid-May: less than five hours per week
NOTE: The number of hours will vary depending on if the coordinator is planning tours for one or two people.
The CCBC’s Book Week regional coordinators organize the author, illustrator, and/or storyteller tours in their province by:
- Sharing Book Week information with potential host organizations (schools, libraries, and community groups) encouraging them to apply to host an author, illustrator or storyteller during Book Week
- Working with the CCBC Events and Program Manager to match hosts with an author, illustrator and/or storyteller based on their list of preferences
- Assisting to coordinate itineraries for touring authors, illustrators, and/or storytellers
- Assisting with booking of accommodation and travel arrangements (as needed)
- Acting as a liaison between touring authors, illustrators, and/or storytellers and host schools and libraries
- Actively promoting Book Week and those authors, illustrators, and/or storytellers touring your province to provincial, regional and local media (when possible).
- Collecting pictures, stories, and statistics regarding the number of Book Week participants from host schools, libraries and community groups sharing them with the CCBC Events and Program Manager for reporting purposes.
- Encouraging host schools, libraries and community groups to participate in post-Book Week survey to help gauge the impact of the tour.
In recognition of their volunteer work, Book Week regional coordinators will receive a free one-year membership to the Canadian Children’s Book Centre.
If you would like to be considered for one of these three volunteer positions, please contact Carol-Ann Hoyte, Events and Program Manager, by email at carol-ann@bookcentre.ca or by phone at 416-975-0010 ext. 4 by no later than 5 pm EDT on Monday, September 30, 2024.
