Sydney Smith wins 2024 Sheila Barry Best Canadian Picturebook of the Year Award
The Vancouver Children's Literature Roundtable (VCLR) has announced the winner of the 2024 Sheila Barry Best Canadian Picturebook of the Year Award. The annual prize pays tribute to the late Sheila Barry, former publisher at Groundwood Books and beloved editor to all who worked with her. Sheila left behind a legacy of award-winning books for children. Congratulations go to author-illustrator Sydney Smith for Do You Remember? (Groundwood Books).
The VCLR has also named three honour book this year. They include:
Jeffrey Loves Blue, written by Loretta Garbutt, illustrated by Lily Snowden-Fine (Owlkids Books)
Maybe a Whale, written by Kirsten Pendreigh, illustrated by Crystal Smith (Groundwood Books)
Wings, Waves & Webs: Patterns in Nature, written and illustrated by Robin Mitchell Cranfield (Greystone Kids)
The presentation of this year's award will take place on November 16, 2024 at VCLR's annual fall tea.
