Winners announced for the 2014 Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Vancouver (April 17, 2014) – The Alcuin Society has announced the winners of its 32nd annual Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada. The winning books will be exhibited in Germany at the Frankfurt and Leipzig Book Fairs; in Japan, at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, in conjunction with the Tokyo International Book Fair; and, in Canada, in nine provinces. Exhibition venues will be posted at www.alcuinsociety.com next week. The books will also be entered in the international book design competition in Leipzig, Germany in February 2015. Awards will be given out this fall in both Toronto and Vancouver; announcements will be made next week about locations and speakers.

This year’s judges, Susan Colberg, Seth and Jessica Sullivan, selected 37 winning titles from 232 entries, from 8 provinces and 107 publishers. This year’s book design winners in the children’s category are:

2014 Alcuin Society Book Awards

The Alcuin Society is a Vancouver based non-profit society for the support and appreciation of fine books. In addition to the annual book design competition, the Society publishes a journal, Amphora, and organizes lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and field visits on various aspects of the book. It also awards The Robert R. Reid Award and Medal, for lifetime achievement in the book arts in Canada. An announcement about the 2014 Reid Award winner is forthcoming, and will appear soon on our website.
