The Rocky Mountain Book Award committee is pleased to announce the 2009 winner of this Children’s Choice Book Award.
As Safe as Houses by Eric Walters received the most student votes. Students in Grades 4 – 7 had the opportunity to vote for their favourite book from a list of twenty recently published Canadian titles selected to represent the best in fiction, poetry and non-fiction.
The main objective of the award is to encourage students to read exemplary Canadian literature. Teachers/Schools registered in this project before January 16th, 2009. Students read 5 titles or more from the list and voted electronically for their favorite book before April 23rd, 2008.
The top 5 choices for the Rocky Mountain Book Award 2009 determined by students in Alberta are as follows: As Safe as Houses by Eric Walters, Painted Circus by Wallace Edwards, Mother Goose Unplucked by Helaine Becker, Strongest Man in the World by Nicolas Debon and Very Serious Children by Caroline Adderson.
