Staffing Change Announcement

Dear Friends,

The Canadian Children’s Book Centre is pleased to announce some changes to our team beginning on June 1, 2020. The editor of  Canadian Children’s Book News, Sandra O’Brien, will be retiring at the end of May. Sandra has done a wonderful job over the last several years to put together this quarterly publication. We wish her the very best for the future!

Shannon Barnes will be taking over for Sandra as Editor. She has been the Program Coordinator for the CCBC since 2002. Shannon has worked with over 200 Canadian children’s book authors and illustrators and has assisted in the coordination of over 400 national Canadian Children’s Book Week tours. She has also coordinated the production of the selected title each year for the TD Grade One Book Giveaway and assisted with the planning of the annual Canadian Children’s Literature Awards Gala. Shannon’s background includes and Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a post graduate certificate in Book & Magazine Publishing from Centennial College. We are very lucky that she has decided to take on this role.

Amanda Halfpenny will be joining the Centre’s team as our new Program and Event Coordinator. Amanda brings several years of experience in school libraries, bookselling and public libraries. She received her Bachelor of Arts in French Literature from Laval University and a Master of Library Science from McGill University. Amanda’s experience also includes the role of Library and Educational Sales and Marketing Representative at La Maison Anglaise Bookstore in Quebec City. As a school librarian in Toronto, she arranged virtual author visits at her schools for the Forest of Reading. Currently, she is an instructor at Seneca College in the English and Liberal Studies program. We are very pleased to have Amanda join our team!

Sincerely,
