This year, #GivingTuesday is November 30th! Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement, taking place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. This year, the CCBC is raising money to offer the gift of reading to young people in remote communities.
Many communities across Canada still lack access to a reliable internet connection. With May 1-7, 2022 being our second virtual Canadian Children’s Book Week tour, it is essential that kids and teens in these communities don’t get left behind. Last year our program kits, created in collaboration with four Canadian authors and illustrators and Book Week regional coordinators, allowed kids and teens in Northern Canada to learn and be inspired to read more and develop their own skills as writers and artists. These kits include author/illustrator videos, activities and books. They provide an opportunity for students to connect with the presenter. These kits were such a success that, for the 2022 tour, we’d like to offer them to even more communities. Your support will cover the costs of the video production, the compensation for the creators and the books for the students.
