49thTeachers.com, a new website where teachers and librarians can browse thousands of Canadian kids’ books, download free classroom resources, and more, is now live.
Imagine thousands of Canadian kids’ books, located in one place.
Introducing 49thteachers.com, a complete database of Canadian-authored children’s books you can search by genre, age range, grade level, or theme. View editors’ themed lists to match great books to different kinds of readers. A monthly series, Notes from a Children’s Librarian, pinpoints perfect selections for Canadian school curricula or themes. Download teacher resources and reading guides. And yes, participate in giveaways too!
49th Teachers is a completely free and not-for-profit publicly-funded initiative, with a simple yet powerful goal: to help educators bring more Canadian books into their classrooms and libraries.
49th Teachers, and its companion site 49th Kids, are powered by 49thShelf.com, the website devoted to finding you your next great Canadian read. 49th Teachers is home to a unique collection of classroom resources for a wide range of Canadian books. Meanwhile, the 49th Kids database is stocked with nearly 20,000 Canadian-authored kids and YA books, hundreds of which have teacher resources attached to them. Search the site by subject area, age, or grade level. Browse our lists, all of which can be downloaded with ISBNs to make ordering easier than ever.

A statement from Kate Edwards, Executive Director of ACP:
“49th Teachers provides the tools educators need to both discover new Canadian books, and also access other resources to support curriculum delivery. The site is a natural extension of 49th Shelf’s mission, and ACP is pleased to partner with OBPO in expanding its scope to encourage increased engagement with Canadian books among Canadian students.”
