The Young Readers’ Choice Awards Society of BC is please to announce the winners of the 2012/2013 Red Cedar Book Awards. Every year, thousands of children between grades 4 and 7 from across the province of BC are invited to read books from the nominated lists of non-fiction and fiction titles and vote for their favourite. The purpose of the program is threefold – to enrich and broaden students’ reading experiences, to promote literacy through the reading of quality Canadian literature and to encourage students’ thoughtful evaluation of these reading materials. Sara Leach won the fiction category for her novel Count Me In, and Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch won the non-fiction category for Last Airlift: A Vietnamese Orphan’s Rescue from War.
