FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Montreal (October 29, 2014) – The Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC) and TD Bank Group are thrilled to announce the winner of the 10th annual Prix TD de littérature canadienne pour l’enfance et la jeunesse, for the most distinguished French-language book of the year. This year, author Andrée Poulin took home the honour for her middle-grade novel, La plus grosse poutine du monde. The announcement was made at a gala event last night at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where Quebec children’s literary elite were on hand to applaud the author. Poulin received a $30,000 prize, and her publisher, Bayard Canada, received $2,500 to promote her book.
This book was among the following finalists, who will also share a $10,000 prize between them:
- Destins croisés, written by Élizabeth Turgeon (Les Édition du Boréal)
- Le lion et l’oiseau, written and illustrated by Marianne Dubuc (Les Éditions de la Pastèque)
- Ma petite boule d’amour, written by Jasmine Dubé and illustrated by Jean-Luc Trudel (Les Éditions de la Bagnole)
- Le Noël de Marguerite, written by India Desjardins and illustrated by Pascal Blanchet (Les Éditions de la Pastèque)
This year, the members of the jury were Nicholas Aumais, Literary Consultant, Bayard Canada; Susane Duchesne, bookseller and Past President, IBBY Canada; Jean Fugère, journalist, columnist and presenter, Radio-Canada; France Lapierre, educational consultant; Josiane Polidori, former Head of Children’s Literature, Library and Archives Canada.
The selection criteria were for original French-language Canadian literature, of any genre, written for children aged 0 to 12. Another $30,000 prize will also be given to the most distinguished English-language work on November 6, 2014 in Toronto. In addition to the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award, the CCBC will also present the winners of its other five book awards: Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award, Norma Fleck Award for Canadian Children’s Non-Fiction, Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction for Young People, John Spray Mystery Award and Monica Hughes Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy.
