What is 49th Shelf?
49th Shelf is a not-for-profit venture produced by the Association of Canadian Publishers in association with the Canadian Publishersʼ Council, and with funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Ontario Media Development Corporation. They list books in all categories from all types of publishers, including self-published and out-of-print titles, and in all formats from print to audio to eBooks. Against this backdrop, their main goal is to help readers find their next great Canadian read. With their new developments, they hope to serve their librarian and educator members ever better than before.
How will our new developments benefit librarians and educators?
This specialist content underway will be composed of a structured set of annotations—notably reading level, age level, curriculum links, themes—as well as a series of related selection tools, making 49th Shelf even more of a comprehensive, searchable, one-stop-destination for anyone interested in identifying Canadian-authored titles for use in schools and libraries.
Thatʼs just an early glimpse into their plans. Thereʼs much more to come soon.
