IODE Toronto Book Award presented to Linda Granfield

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (April 15, 2010) – This year’s Municipal Chapter of Toronto IODE Jean Throop Book Award was presented to Linda Granfield for Remembering John McCrae: Soilder, Doctor, Poet (Scholastic Canada), on March 31, 2010 at IODE Toronto’s annual dinner and meeting. IODE Toronto presents an annual book award to a local Toronto author and illustrator.

Linda Granfield is the author of over twenty-five non-fiction titles for young readers and adults. Presented in scrapbook style, Remembering John McCrae offers fascinating glimpses into his extraordinary life including his love of animals, sports, and his years in medicine and the military. John McCrae is best known for writing the famous war memorial poem, “In Flanders Fields.”

IODE Toronto is a premier women’s charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through education support, community service and citizenship programs.

This prestigious $2,000 book award established in 1974 encourages excellence in Canadian children’s literature. Former IODE Toronto book award winners include Dennis Lee, Barbara Reid, Ian Wallace and Charles Pachter.
