Family Literacy Day – January 27, 2010

In 1999, ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation and Honda Canada created Family Literacy Day to encourage families to read and learn together. Thousands of Canadians take part in Family Literacy Day events and activities at schools, libraries and literacy organizations.

Reading is the most important skill children can learn. It helps develop imagination and intelligence and sets them on the path for a successful future. A love of reading is one of the finest gifts parents can give their child. If parents make reading a part of their child’s life right from the start and lead by example, children will learn from a very young age the importance of books and reading.
