Call for Submissions: 2011 Victoria Book Prizes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Victoria (March 31, 2011) – The Victoria Book Prize Society is now accepting submissions for the 8th annual City of Victoria Butler Book Prize and the 4th annual Bolen Books Children’s Book Prize. The City of Victoria Butler Book Prize honours a member of the local literary community with a $5,000 prize for the best book published for adult readership in the categories of poetry, literary non-fiction, and fiction. The Bolen Books Children’s Book Prize honours a member of the children’s books literary community and presents $5,000 to the author/illustrator of the best book published for youth. The awards will be presented Wednesday October 12th at the Union Club of British Columbia.

Guidelines and submission forms are available at www.victoriabookprizes.ca. Books must have been published between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011 to be considered this year. Submissions can be sent to the following address between April 1 and May 31:

Two independent juries comprised of representatives from the literary arts community will be appointed by the Victoria Book Prize Society to review and assess adult and children’s literature entries based on their literary or illustrative merit. Last year’s City of Victoria Butler Book Prize winner was Children of the Klondike (Whitecap Books) by Frances Backhouse and Counting on Hope (Sono Nis Press) by Sylvia Olsen won the Bolen Books Children’s Book Prize.
