Illustrators and their illustrations will be a vital part of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2011.
The Illustrators Exhibition, scheduled from Monday, March 28 to Thursday, March 31, boasts a great tradition, and is one of the most meaningful initiatives among events devoted to illustration. The Illustrators Exhibition offers a unique opportunity for artists and publishers to meet each other because it coincides with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the most important fair in the world in the field of children’s publishing. The publication of the selected works in the “annual” catalogue, which distributed worldwide as well as the travelling itinerary of the Exhibition to several Japanese art museums (in co-operation with JBBY), increases the visibility of all participating artists.
All illustrators (under the age of 35) are invited to submit their work to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair – SM Foundation International Award for Illustration. This annual award, founded in 2009, aims to promote and support new talents in the world of illustration and carries a prize value of $30,000. Information on how to participate and rules of entry can be found on the Bologna CHildren’s Book Fair’s website.
The deadline for entry forms for artists individually displaying their work is October 1, 2010. For artists that are represented by schools, publishers, agents, associations, etc., the deadline is November 26, 2010. All artwork not chosen will be returned immediately after the selection process in February 2011.
Entry to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair is strictly limited to professionals. Application to the Illustrators Exhibition is free and entitles to a pass granting illustrators the admission to the Fair. Illustrators not taking part in the Exhibition, but wishing to visit the Fair, may contact the Illustrators Show Office (illustratori@bolognafiere.it) for a reduced ticket starting February 25, 2011.
