My Beautiful Birds Wins the SCBWI 2018 Crystal Kite Award for Canada

My Beautiful Birds, Suzanne Del Rizzo’s moving story about a young Syrian refugee boy, has won the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) 2018 Crystal Kite Award for Canada.
The Crystal Kite Awards are peer-selected and voted on by SCBWI members from local regions. The award is “given to fifteen books that represent excellence in the field of children’s literature.” Find out more here.

My Beautiful Birds has received a great deal of recognition, including being a 2017 New York Times Notable Children’s Book selection; the 2017 One Books for Kids, One San Diego selection; winning the Malka Penn Award for Human Rights in Children’s Literature and receiving an honourable mention for the Middle East Book Award. It is also a 2017 Foreword INDIES Picture Book Award finalist; a Junior Library Guild selection; a 2017 Cybils Award for Fiction nominee; a 2018 Children’s Literature and Reading Special Interest Group of the ILA’s “Notable Books for a Global Society” selection; and an NECBA Windows & Mirrors Fall 2017 selection.
