Award-winning children’s author and illustrator Barbara Reid has been appointed as a member of the Order of Canada by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. The announcement was made in Ottawa on June 28, 2013. Reid was chosen for her contributions as a children’s book illustrator and author, widely known for her creative use of the medium of Plasticine.
Her first book was New Baby Calf by Edith Newlin, and since then Barbara has illustrated over 25 books for children. She has won numerous awards including the Amelia Francis Howard-Gibbon Illustrator’s Award, the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Award, the Mr. Christie’s Book Award (Illustration), the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Award and the prestigious Governor General’s Literary Award (Illustration).
