Adrift at Sea Wins 2018 Forest of Reading Golden Oak Award

Adrift at Sea: A Vietnamese Boy’s Story of Survival  by author Marsha Forchuk Skyrpuch with Tuan Ho, and illustrator Brian Deines is the winner of the Ontario Library Association’s 2018 Forest of Reading Golden Oak™ Award.

The Forest of Reading is “Canada’s largest recreational reading program” and the Golden Oak™ Award “provides a unique opportunity for new readers in adult literacy programs to read books chosen specifically for them….This program helps new adult readers to gain the skills to accomplish everyday tasks, as well as foster the love of reading.” Learn more about the Forest of Reading and its different programs for children and adults here.

Other notable accolades for Adrift at Sea include being named the 2017 Children’s Literature Roundtables of Canada Information Book Award Honour Book, and nominations for the 2017 Cybils Award, the 2018 Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice (LYRC) Award: Grade 3-5, and the 2017 Red Cedar Information Book Award. Adrift at Sea was also a Starred Selection in the Canadian Children’s Book Centre’s Spring 2017 Best Books for Kids & Teens, a New England Children’s Booksellers Advisory Council (NECBA) 2016 Hot Titles selection, and a 2016 Resource Links “The Year’s Best” selection.
