Writer in Residence Position – focussing on writers of Young Adult Fiction and supporting young writers

Location: North York Central Library, October/November 2010
Remuneration: $8,000 for two-month term

Toronto Public Library invites applications from writers for the Fall 2010 Writer in Residence position. The residency is designed to encourage exchanges between the author and the community and requires 14 hours per week at the library for: public readings, workshops, evaluation of submitted manuscripts, one-on-one and/or group meetings with writers from the general public, blog development, participation in online forums, and other activities as agreed. The remaining time is available for the Writer in Residence to work on his or her own project.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada
  • Minimum of two books in print, one of which is young adult fiction, published by a professional publishing house
  • Active in the writing profession
  • Experience in teaching creative writing, especially to youth or young adults
  • Experience in working with youth
  • Experience in meeting and working with the public
  • Working on or planning to work on a new project intended for book-length publication

Applications must include:

  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume, including a list of publications and completed projects, a summary of relevant experience, and a description of workshops or programs directed to young writers and/or writers of Young Adult fiction that could be delivered by the applicant
  • Sample of recent fiction work (15-20 pages)
  • Two letters of reference
