6 April 2020
Artistic Director Jael Richardson and the FOLD Board and Planning Team have been hard at work reorganizing the schedule and learning the ins and outs of Zoom and how best to present the festival in an online fashion. The festival’s authors have greeted the news of a move to a virtual festival with tremendous enthusiasm and all are excited to be participating in this new iteration of the festival. The 2020 festival has been adapted from 26 in-person events to 17 virtual events running April 30 – May 3. In addition to those 17 events, the festival will also include a preview event on April 25 on the Power and Politics of Prizes and a post-festival event on May 4, Five Years of FOLD, where we reflect on the past five years of Canada’s first festival centering underrepresented authors and storytellers. Tickets for the April 25 event were announced on Thursday and over 20% of available spaces have already been claimed.
All festival events are now displayed on the FOLD website at www.thefoldcanada.org. Participants must register for individual events and will receive a secure link to the Zoom webinar once registration is complete. We look forward to welcoming attendees from across Canada and all over the world to this first-ever online-only edition of the FOLD.
“In this time of uncertainty, we feel that it is more important than ever to celebrate and support our storytellers wherever they may be. The Internet and its virtual tools offer an exciting array of possibilities for the FOLD to explore, and we are very excited to pull together this roster of innovative, alternative events.” – Artistic Director Jael Richardson
