Michael Kusugak wins Vicky Metcalf Award

Congratulations to Michael Kusugak on winning the Vicky Metcalf Award, announced on November 17. The $15,000 award, sponsored by the George Cedric Metcalf Foundation and adminstered by the Writers’ Trust, is given for a body of work that demonstrates the highest literary standards.

Michael Kusugak, a resident of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, is the author of nine books, all illustrated by Vladyana Krykorka. From his first book, A Promise is a Promise, to his most recent, The Littlest Sled Dog, he has told stories about life in the Arctic. He currently devotes his time to writing, storytelling and speaking with educators.
