Job title: Marketing and Website Coordinator
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience.
Schedule: 35 hours per week

On occasion, may require some evening and/or weekend work.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing and Website Coordinator is responsible for developing, establishing and maintaining marketing strategies to meet the Canadian Children’s Book Centre objectives through effective management of the marketing, advertising and promotional activities of the organization.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement marketing plans (both traditional and online) and enhancements for new and existing products and services, including CCBC publications (Best Books for Kids & Teens; Canadian Children’s Book News) and programs (TD Canadian Children’s Book Week; TD Grade One Book Giveaway Program; TD Book Awards)
  • Maintain and develop engaging content for the Centre’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Goodreads).
  • Responsible for creating the CCBC’s monthly Educator Newsletter by coordinating contributors, developing content, editing, designing and distributing via Mail Chimp.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and development of all digital projects, including the Teachers’ Book Bank and online Best Books for Kids & Teens.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of CCBC website and for the enhancement of the CCBC’s online marketing presence (educator newsletter, CCBC Events page, social media accounts).
  • Representing CCBC both online, via our social media accounts, and in person at conferences and events.
  • Keeping current with new developments in web technology and online marketing/sales opportunities.
  • Working with webmaster on maintenance and development of website, and assisting with website upgrades as necessary.
  • Assisting authors and illustrators with their online promotion efforts via the CCBC’s Author, Illustrator and Storyteller Directory.
  • Writing and distributing press releases, as well as writing content for CCBC website and blog.
  • Liaising with media and advertising contacts, as well as exploring new advertising venues.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two years’ experience in marketing and website management, preferably in book publishing.
  • Experience developing and maintaining traditional and digital marketing strategies to meet organizational objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A knack for creative marketing on a tight budget.
  • Comfortable with technology and can pick up new programs easily.
  • Experience in website maintenance and content management.
  • Knowledge of basic website languages and tools (HTML, CSS and WordPress).
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for books—especially books for children and teens—and a background in publishing an asset.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative and work independently, as well as collaboratively.
  • Flexible and innovative in order to respond to changing needs.
  • Good problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to liaise with wide variety of contacts including authors, illustrators, booksellers, publishers, teachers, librarians, CCBC members, board of directors, and sponsors.
