FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Montreal (November 2, 2016) – The Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC) and TD Bank Group are thrilled to announce the winner of the 12th annual Prix TD de littérature canadienne pour l’enfance et la jeunesse, for the most distinguished French-language book of the year. This year, author and illustrator Jacques Goldstyn took home the honour for his book, L’arbragan. The announcement was made at a gala event last night at Le Windsor, where Quebec children’s literary elite were on hand to applaud the author/illustrator. Goldstyn received a $30,000 prize, and his publisher, Éditions de la Pastèque, received $2,500 to promote his book.
This book was among the following finalists, who will also share a $10,000 prize between them:
- Aux toilette, written by André Marois and illustrated by Pierre Pratt (Éditions Druide)
- Camille, written by Patrick Isabelle (Leméac Éditeur)
- L’épopée de Petit-Jules, written by Maryse Rouy (Éditions Hurtubise)
- Le prisonnier sans frontières, written and illustrated by Jacques Goldstyn (Bayard Canada)
This year, the members of the jury were Raymond Bertin, cultural journalist; Rachel DeRoy-Ringuette, children’s literature consultant; Félix Guénette, librarian; Sophie Kurler, librarian; France Lapierre, educational consultant.
The selection criteria were for original French-language Canadian literature, of any genre, written for children aged 0 to 12. Another $30,000 prize will also be given to the most distinguished English-language work on November 17, 2016 in Toronto. In addition to the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award, the CCBC will also present the winners of its other six book awards: Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award, Norma Fleck Award for Canadian Children’s Non-Fiction, Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction for Young People, John Spray Mystery Award, Monica Hughes Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy, and the Amy Mathers Teen Book Award.
