Award-winning children’s author and CCBC board member Shar Levine has been appointed as a member of the Order of Canada by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. The announcement was made in Ottawa on June 30, 2016. Levine was chosen for her contributions to making science easier for children to understand through her hands-on workshops and for her work to involve parents, teachers and librarians in science education.
Levine has written over 70 science books for kids with her writing partner Leslie Johnstone. Several of their books have been translated into various languages including Russia, Dutch and Korean. For more information about Levine’s work, please visit www.sciencelady.com.
Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
The Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Over the last 49 years, more than 6 500 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.
